Therapy and Philosophy
Movement is generally good for you, but do you move in a balanced manner that allows your joints to move freely through their neutral position. Firstly, there needs to be an assessment on any injury sites to determine whether or not they need managing and/or treating. Away from the injury site assessment is carried out up and down the kinetic chain looking for tight, short, week or hypermobile joints and muscles. The results of which can begin show the impact they have on areas of discomfort and potential longer-term conditions.
Traditional deep tissue massage techniques and be quite uncomfortable and leave clients sore the next day. In clinic here, clients will experience a unique release technique where the related joints are moved through 2 or 3 dimensions while the belly of the muscle is pulled rather than pressed or dug into. This creates a deep lengthening in the muscles that will give an instant relief as well as a fascial release allowing the connecting joints to move more freely. This approach is especially effective for teenagers with growing pains and can alleviate conditions such as osgood-schlatter and sever’s in as little as one session if caught in the early stages.
Depending on physical condition clients can then start to work through an exercise routine that will dynamically stretch tight muscles and activate lazy or week muscles to improve natural flow of movement. These movements can be quite the work out, so clients should come dressed appropriately, with the goal of having longer-term impact rather than relying on manual therapy alone. Some clients that can trace their issues to imbalances in their feet, a surprising majority, will benefit from the integrated TreadWave approach using a combination of manual/physical therapy (as above) and the patented TreadWave decks to re-educate the gait cycle.
TreadWave
TreadWave is a UK patent granted approach to gait cycle therapy. Clients will experience modified treadmill decks to manipulate the kinetic chain and manual/physical therapy techniques in assessment and treatment. The integrated method treats a wide range of lower limb and pelvic dysfunction by releasing tension in the ankles and hips and activating dormant muscles in the posterior chain.
The TreadWave therapy will first target the feet and ankles to unlock rigid structures as a result of genetics, lifestyle, footwear, injury, postoperative care and all manner of physical/psychological conditions. A second shaped deck is then used to unlock the hip flexors and encourage a more rolling motion of the pelvis. Modern lifestyle typically results in the tension in the hip flexors so once restored to a normal range, a final deck shape will engage the gluteals and other, often lazy muscles, in the posterior chain.
This brand new and exiting approach to physical therapy is completely unique and currently involved in ongoing research in perpetration of reaching a wider audience. Until such time TreadWave decks are only available for purchase by suitably qualified practitioners and bespoke packages can be arranged for each clinics needs.
